A well oiled Swiss team overpowered a physical Cameroon for a narrow 1-0 win in Group G. Both teams had good opportunities to score in an evenly contested 1st half, but could not nose ahead, as the ref blew the half time whistle. The Green Yellow brigade had the better of exchanges & chances, but could not really capitalise.
Early in the 2nd half, & in a well coiled move, Xhaka moved the ball to Shaqiri in the right flank, who then deftly passed to Embolo & he fired into the net past a flailing Onana under the bar. Switzerland were up & running 1-0 in the game. They had another chance to put the game to bed, through an almost similar move, but the shot by Vargas was fisted out by Onana to keep Cameroon alive in the game. Despite attempts by both teams, the scoreline did not change & Switzerland registered their 1st win in the Group, considered to be tricky by many, with Brazil & Serbia coming up later in the evening.
