It was a buoyant Bangladesh taking to Netherlands at Chittagong, where they had scripted a historic victory against a much fancied England, three days back.
Netherlands won the toss & elected to bat. However, a rejuvenated Bangladeshi bowling was accurate & nagging, as the slow pitch assisted the spinners. Shafiul Islam, after his batting heroics from the last match, was lethal with his seam bowling today & completely strangulated the Dutch scoring. Wickets tumbled under pressure & it was only Doeschate, who stood amidst the ruins for Netherlands with an unbeaten 53, as they crashed to 160 all out in 46.2 overs. While Shafiul was unlucky not to get a wicket despite being brilliant with the ball, his counterpart Abdur Razzak took 3 for 29, as the team in Orange struggled throughout.
In reply, Bangladesh lost their mercurial opener Tamim with no score on board in the 1st over, but Imrul Keyes along with Junaid steadied the ship & did not allow the Dutch bowling to cause any more concerns, taking the score to 92, before Junaid got out. Keyes remained unbeaten with a patient 73 runs, as Bangladesh romped home with a 6 wicket win in 41.2 overs. It was a clinical effort by the hosts & now they have 6 points in their kitty with a match against South Africa left, & a sniff of a chance for the next round. If England loses to West Indies, surely the Bengal tigers are in the quarterfinals.
Man of the Match : Imrul Keyes for his 73 unbeaten runs & taking Bangladesh to a victory. This being his back to back Man of the Match award.
