FIFA World Cup : Spain vs Costa Rica

In a masterclass & clinical display of passing football, Spain opened their World Cup venture with a 7-0 win over a hapless Costa Rica.

Luis Enrique's side found almost no resistance from Costa Rican, who are normally a hard nut to crack, & the Spanish armada simply swept the Latin Americans off the floor throughout the game. A team full of young talent, grooming for the near future, the likes of Olmo, Asensio, Torres, Pedri, & Gavi well covered & orchestrated by Busquets, Alba, Azpiliceuta, Laporte etc, the Spanish team were a treat to watch. Gavi, the 18 year old sensation was all over the pitch bossing over his opponents, scoring an outrageous goal with a back of the boot finish, & assisting in two more, earning the Man of Match award in his debut World Cup game. He became the third youngest goalscorer in World Cup history & also the youngest since Pele in 1958. Barcelona would be delighted with his performance as he along with Pedri looked to be the midfield superstars for the club ahead.

Costa Rica barely had any sniff at the Spanish goal, as they groped in thin air, while their opponents marauded the ground. Such was the extent of domination, that the veteran Costa Rican keeper Navas, one of the best keepers till not very long ago, seemed to have given up in frustration. I do not remember him letting go seven goals past him in a match ever, & but for some of his saves, the scoreline could have been far more devastating.

Given the shock loss of Germany to Japan earlier in the day, Spain will carry huge confidence into their next matches, & are looking ominous in form.
