ICC World Cup 2019 - Sri Lanka vs South Africa

Needing a win to stay in contention, Sri Lanka dished out a moderate & below par performance against already vanquished South Africa to lose by 9 wickets & in the process putting their own chance of a semi final spot in jeopardy.
Put into bat, Lankans were in trouble right away, as Rabada removed capt Dimuth Karunaratne in the very first delivery & the batting never really revived from there on, as the side collapsed in a heap to be all out for meagre total of 203. There were a few starts by the batsmen with almost all front line batters getting into double figures, but none could convert into a big innings, as the Proteas pacers made mince meat of the Lankan batting. Pretorious, coming into the team in place of Ngidi, justified his selection by picking up 3 wickets for 25 runs & getting adjusted the Man of Match. he was ably supported by Rabad who took 2 wickets & Morris who claimed 3. The match was held up for a brief while around the 48th over of the innings, when a swarm of bees buzzed into the ground, forcing the players & umpires to lie flat on the turf - luckily no one was hurt or stung !!
Chasing, South Africa lost de Kock early, but Hashim Amla & capt du Plessis, ensured no further losses, stitching up a 175 runs unbeaten partnership, to romp home victorious with 76 balls to spare. Amla stayed unbeaten with 80, while du Plessis stranded at 96, narrowly missed a century. It was a resounding victory for them, but too late in the tournament to have any impact.
Sri Lanka still have a mathematical possibility of qualifying for the semis, but for that they have to win their last two games against West Indies & India, & then wait for favourable results from other teams - a tall order.
