Belying the general expectations of a Wales dominant show, it was the US team that took the lead after some good runs down the flanks around the 35minute, as Christian Pulisic burst through the middle & squared to Tim Weah who received just outside the box & put the ball in the net past Hennessey to open the scoring. At half time, USA led 1-0 & looked the better team on the park.
In the 2nd half, the ball rotated from one end to the other, as Wales mounted pressure on the opponents, but USA held firm & it looked like heading for a unlikely win, when around the 80th minute, Zimmerman made an awful sliding tackle inside the box on Gareth Bale & the ref pointed to the dreaded spot. Bale stepped up & his pile driver found the ball inside the top end of the net for a well deserved equalizer.
The match saw US dominating the 1st half, while Wales fought back in the 2nd half as the match ended in a draw. Whoever wins against Iran & by a larger margin, should be able to proceed to next stages, for now.
