FIFA World Cup : Serbia vs Cameroon

In a crucial Group G match Serbia took on Cameroon, with both sides needing a win to stay in contention for the knock out stages. Even before the start Cameroon were dealt with a telling blow, as their first choice goal keeper Andre Onana was removed from the team for indiscipline, falling out with the team management. In his place Devis Eppasy would keep the bars for the match. The game turned out to be a seesaw battle between the European physicality vs African resilience, as both sides battled out till the last moment for ascendency, providing a well contested game for the spectators.

Serbia should've gone ahead early in the game, as Mitrovic dribbled into the African half, but spurned two gilt edged opportunities, first hitting the bar from a narrow angle & then blowing wide of the post. While Serbia rued these missed chances, on the other side, Cameroon made good of their opportunities & from a goal mouth melee Castelletto tapped the ball in behind the keeper & defenders to go 1-0 up around the 30th minute. However, Serbia responded well & turned the game on its head, by scoring twice in the injury time. First Pavlovic headed from a free kick & then Milinkovic Savic angled his shot into the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-1 for Serbia at half time.

Early in the 2nd half, Mitrovic was again involved in a good team up with Savic & Zivkovic on the right side, & calmly patted the ball into the open net to go up 3-1. It looked like game over for the Africans, as their Coach made a couple of vital changes to bring in Vincent Aboubakar around the hour mark, to add spark to their attack. Persistent attack in the Serbian half, got Aboubakar then scoring an audacious goal, slipping out & lobbing the ball over the giant Serbian keeper into the net for a nonchalant sublime finish - a VAR check confirmed the goal to the delight of Cameroon supporters. Vincent then assisted in striding through the Serbian defense & laying a pass to Choupo Moting who slotted into the far net, as the score sheet showed 3-3. Cameroon had salvaged a draw after looking dead & buried at the hour mark, showing their fighting qualities.

With the game ending in a draw, both teams are now lying at just one point, & would be facing an uphill task to qualify, as Cameroon next face Brazil next week & Serbia take on Switzerland.
