In a much improved display, after their opening match drubbing against Ecuador, host Qatar took on Senegal with full gusto. However, it was the more skillful Senegal who prevailed at the end, absorbing the late onslaught by Qatar.
Dia opened the scoring for Senegal just befor half time, when he quickly took advantage of a slip up by Khoukhi inside the box & rammed the ball past Barsham into the net. Immediately after the break, Diedhiou doubled the lead with a glancing header from a corner, as Qatar looked fazed out. However, in a last ditch effort they managed to pile pressure & got theit first World Cup goal, when Muntari got over Koulibaly to head past Mendy into the far post. With score at 2-1, Qatar came alive into the game & the rapturous crowd egged them to go, but Dieng got the two goal cushion back, as he raced in & his shot went past a diving Barsham into the net, 3-1.
The game ended with Senegal getting three points & pushing Qatar to the brink of elimination. They now have to face Netherlands, while Senegal take on Ecuador.
