ICC World Cup 2019 - New Zealand vs Afghanistan

New Zealand went past minnows Afghanistan at Taunton, with a seven wicket victory, hardly breaking into a sweat.
Put into bat, Afghanistan actually made a decent start, as openers Zazai & Zadran, thwarted the pace attack of Trent Boult & Matt Henry, enjoyed a couple of dropped chances before putting up 66 runs in their opening stand, in just over 10 overs. However, Neesham, coming into bowl the 11th over, induced Zazai to mistiming & getting caught at the boundary - wickets fell in a heap from here, as Afghanistan were reduced to 71 for 4 in the 15th over. Neesham ripped through the batting, picking up his career best figures of 5 for 31, as Lokie Ferguson supported ably by claiming 4 for 37. From a position of strength initially, when they were looking good to score 240-250 runs at the least, Afghanistan folded their innings in the 42nd over for a paltry 172 runs. Hashmatullah Shahidi topscored with a patient 59 runs, & was the last man out.
In reply New Zealand lost Guptill for no score, & Munro too fell cheaply, but the target was too little to bother them, as capt Williamson along with Ross Taylor eased the tensions with a 89 run stand, before Taylor departed for a pleasing 48 runs. Latham joined Williamson in the centre & the pair scampered past the target without much fuss. Williamson topscored with a delightful, unbeaten 79 runs. Neesham was the deserving Man of the Match, as the Kiwis top the table with three wins on the trot. They are looking good, as the team is combining well, & promise to go the distance. Afghanistan are still looking for their first win & face South Africa next, who too are reeling with three losses till now.
