As expected, another one sided match virtually, as the mighty Aussies bulldozed past minnow Afghanistan by 7 wickets.
Earlier, Starc, in his comeback match scorched up fiery pace to remove opener Shahzad in the first over itself, which set the tone of the match. Afghani batsmen thereafter, applied hard on intent & courage, with some good contributions from Rahmat Shah, capt Gubadin, Najibullah & Rashid Khan - Najib picking up an enterprising half century as well. However, the Australian bowling had too much sting for them to combat, & Afghanistan folded up for 207 runs within 40 overs - had they managed to hang around till their quota of 50 overs, & scored another 50-60 runs, the game could've been more competitive.
In reply, Warner & Finch had little to worry & they piled up 96 runs, before Finch holed out. Khawaja & Smith got some useful practice in as well, before Maxwell ended the chase with a boundary. Warner remained unbeaten with a workman like 89 - both him & Smith looking in ominous form, in their comeback match after a one year ban & lots of boos from the crowd.
This Australian side, bats deep & has quality strike bowlers to ben in the reckoning. For Afghanistan, its still learning days, but they look confident & composed enough to topple couple of top charter teams, maybe .....
