Pakistan came up the winners, in this match with a resounding 55 runs victory. The weak link of the team, the inconsistent batting, came good on a true pitch at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, & the Pakistan batsmen made merry to reach an imposing total of 201 for 5 in their 20 overs. Sharjeel Khan, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, up in the order, tonked the ball to all parts of the ground & then the final assault by Shahid Afridi, blew the Bangladeshi bowlers away. The match was virtually over by then.
In reply, Bangladesh needed a sparkling start, which was not to be. While Tamim tried hard, Soumya Sarkar went for a blob, & they were clearly out of the race. Shakib managed a well made 50, but in the end Bangladesh could muster only 146 for 6 in their allotted overs.
This victory would make Pakistan confident, as their batting came good & their bowling looked sharp. For Bangladesh, they have a couple of positives to carry from this match, & even if they manage one win in this tough group, they would return a happy bunch.
The next match would be the high voltage game with India. Both the teams would be desperate for a victory, & for India it would be a battle for survival in the tournament. The records speak in India's favor, & the home crowd support should also give them some comfort.
Looking forward to a humdinger of a match on 19th.
