World Cup 2014 : Netherlands vs Chile 2-0 / Spain vs Australia 3-0

Both Netherlands & Chile had already qualified with two wins & today was an encounter to see who tops the Group to avoid a possible clash with Brazil in the next round.
Netherlands without their Captain Van Persie in this match, suspended on two yellow cards, expectedly were a little off colour in attack, while Chile looked a little overawed by the situation. The match moved both ends at cautious pace, with occasional bursts at goal......it was Robben for the Dutch & Alexis Sanchez for Chile who put in their heat in the game & raised hopes of a goal.
The game looked like trickling to a draw, when around the 75th minute, Dutch coach, Van Gaal took out a lacklustre Sneijder & brought in Leroy Fer....this had an immediate impact & Vlaar paced in nicely to set a beautiful cross & Fer blasted in 1-0...it was only 2-3 minutes into the game for Fer, but he had scored the all important goal. With regulation time over & match into extra time, & Chile still pressing through Sanchenz, & Robben was up with his customary dash of speed from a loose ball.....speeding through into the box & crossing it to substitute Memphis Depay, who slotted in 2-0. Game over, with Netherlands topping the group.

In the other inconsequential match, defending Champions finally notched a victory with a 3-0 win over Australia. The new look team, played with control & for once looked the Champion team that they had been over the last 6-7 years. A consolation for them to go home.
