Lokpal Bill.... lets make it happen !!!

In my childhood, I used to listen with awe, as my mother would tell me stories of the freedom movement…..how India, our Motherland, achieved independence from British Raj…..after 200 years of abject slavery…..the sacrifices of innumerable people from all walks of life……just so that you & I could breathe & live in a free country…..

65th year into freedom, today, we are witnessing an unprecedented uprising against the Central Govt across the Country….a fight against corruption….a crusade led by a common man…Kisan Bapat Baburao Hazare, popularly known as Anna Hazare(refer to my previous blog on 6th April’11).

There has been country wide support for the 74 year old Anna, whose fast – unto – death movement over the last 24 hours has caught the Govt napping & clueless. He has touched the raw nerves of millions, by demanding tougher laws against rampant corruption, especially against the bureaucratic machinery, which is bleeding us hollow from within. Thousands of supporters, who seem to have lost faith in the current Govt’s capabilities, have taken to the streets across the length & breadth of the country, expressing solidarity behind the movement, courting arrests in large numbers.

It was gratifying to witness the camaraderie of thousands who had come out to assemble at Azad Maidan, in defiance, in support of Anna…..professionals, students, housewives, kids, et all……common, ordinary citizens with extraordinary resolve…..honestly, It felt strange to court arrest….detained under section 68 & 69,…taken away in the police vehicle & then set free !!….maybe a glimpse of what our freedom fighters would have experienced.......

The call for an honest & strong Lokpal Bill, is just a beginning….a movement that will push the Govt to form an autonomous body which will have the authority to make every citizen of the country accountable for their deeds & misdeeds, be it the politicians / ministers or the bureaucrats or anyone else…..something like the Election Commission of India. This body should have equal representation from all walks of life, people like Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi etc, who have dedicated their entire life to the welfare of this Country. Let there be representations from Govt / ministers, politicians, industrialists, professionals, students, spiritual leaders, common man.....et all.....each segment has a right to voice !!! It wont be easy.....it never is....but an honest resolve...an honest attempt to cleanse !!!!
Let us all resolve to make this movement a success....let us all contribute towards eradicating Corruption, that has seeped into the deepest recesses of our Country.....let us sacrifice, but sow seeds of a clean tomorrow....let us all lead towards the awakening !!!!
Vande Mataram !!!!
