Zimbabwe against Canada at Nagpur, was supposed to be the fight between the minnows.
Zimbabwe won the toss & elected to bat and immediately got into trouble losing both the openers within 4 overs with score reading 7 runs for 2 wickets. However, Tatenda Taibu & Ervine, the next batsmen in dug in to build a partnership. Both batted with authority & thrashed the Canadian attack, putting on 181 runs on board. When Ervine was finally caught behind by Bagai, he had put on 85 invaluable runs for just 81 deliveries. Taibu did not last long after that & holed out to Davison for a brilliant 98 of 99 deliveries, in the 34th over.....he missed, what would have been a well deserved hundred. The late order too contributed with the long handle & the final score was a huge 298 for 9 in 50 overs.
This chase would obviously be extremely steep for Canada & the batsmen just could not take the pressure. It was more of a parade, with batsmen in & out.....as the score limped along. Finally it was all over in 43 overs, with the score of 123. The Zimbabwean bowlers enjoyed the cushion of a large total & Price, Cremer, Utseya & Lamb all were amongst wickets.
It was a big win for Zimbabwe by 175 runs.
Man of the Match ; Tatenda Taibu, the wicketkeeper batsman for Zimbabwe for his brilliant 98.
