In Ist of the glaringly one sided matches, expected in this tournament, the Kiwis thrashed minnows Kenya by 10 wickets at the Chepauk Stadium, Chennai.
Winning the toss & deciding to bat first, Kenya could not even sustain half of their quota of 50 overs, as they collapsed in a heap for just 69 runs in 23.5 overs. Southee, Bennett & Oram simply steamrolled over the batsmen, & it was all over in less than two hours.
In reply the New Zealand openers, McCullum & Guptill were in no mood to show any mercy & the paltry target was completed in 8 overs.....
In probably their quickest World Cup victories, the match was over in less than 3 hours.
Man of the match : HK Bennett for his 4 wickets in 5 overs for 16 runs.
