The quarterfinals last week were a treat to watch late night. This year the English clubs have been in marauding form & have virtually swept the championship. Chelsea battled Liverpool to reach the semis for the fifth time in six seasons, after a thrilling 4-4 draw in the 2nd leg & winning on an aggregate of 7-5. They would now meet Barcelona, who got the better of Bayern Munich with a 5-1 aggregate. In fact, Barca are now the only non English team left in the tournament, & will have to play out of their skins to stop the marauding Chelsea, who have been a constant hurdle to them over the years. However, Barca are playing extremely well of late, with Messi, Eto, Xavi & Henry scoring quite regularly, & Puyol & company managing the defence. With the 1st leg at home, Barca surely would be taking the battle to the Chelsea camp, & we the football lovers across the globe can look forward to an exciting contest.
On the side, Manchester United were initially rocked by Porto for a 2-2 draw in the 1st leg of the quarterfinals. But the mercurial strike from Christian Ronaldo early in the 2nd leg ensured Man U pipping Porto to the semis. In fact, this was the first time an English club had defeated Porto on their home ground. In the last of the matches, Arsenal easily routed Villareal for an all English semifinals. This ensures that at least one English club would feature in the finals of this prestigious tournament. However, my personal belief is that if Barca manages to go past Chelsea, which they should under their current form, they would most certainly take home the title. Its always been a pleasure to watch the Spanish team play with their immaculate short passes & quick skills......Loads to watch ahead friends......
Looking forward to some exciting football round the corner. Worth keeping awake late in the night for the matches.
