General Election 2009 in India, the largest democracy, started today, amidst bullets & terror strikes by the Naxals. 17 people killed across four states that went to polls today. Once again law & internal security bites dust, as polling booths at various locations were exposed to the rude & sudden attacks of the Naxals.....through the day, attacks at 15 different locations, leaving behind a trail of blood & fear.
At various news channels, we still find Central Govt washing their hands off saying, this is a state issue & Central can only support, but not be in action. For the citizens of India, all this is still pure debate & no action. At the end of all this, we are all under clear security threat .....as much internally as externally...
Infact a survey done by a news channel shows that two of the largest issues that people are concerned with today is Security(45%) & Economic Slowdown(19%).
However, the silver lining & clear sign of cheer is that inspite of such blatant terror attacks, today it was the ballot that won over the bullet......
Inspite of the threats of terror, people did come out in large numbers to Vote....& that is a very heartening feature. Inspite of these attacks, 58-62% people turned up to vote. Finally the people of India are making this strong resolve to come out & Vote....... & hopefully Vote for the right Governance..... Hopefully, larger turnouts would be seen in days to come.
Let us not bow down to the fear of bullets,....let us come out & fill the ballot.....all of us. Because each & every Vote counts.....

Its really a very shameful incident. Naxals (maos, millitent) don't want to join hands in building nation and are only interested in breaking systems. Though voting percentage just defies their attempts. But it also shows how insecure we are from inside too. If these forces be able join hands with our neighbouring forces.. it would be nightmare. I hope and pray that there will be responsible, Active people at the head of country soon. Let's all do our small part in it. Let's vote!
It is the government's fault for allowing the Naxals to thrive in the Naxal belt. As long as their ideology does not die they will remain. Most of these naxals join to take revenge on local government officials or political leaders or money lenders who have affected them and their families through atrocious actions.
Luckily the larger populace has belief in the system and hence the large voter turnout. Let's hope the coming new government will be successful in crushing the naxalite resurgence.
Very rightly said!!
In fact - our Constitution should undergo a complete transformation in terms of laws, policies, procedures.
The citizens should have complete authority to check the nomination papers and resumes of each and every candidate and also have the right to shortlist/reject them based on their merit and credibility.
The candidates should seek acceptance from people outside of his/her constituency as well and should be elected based on collective majority. This will also reduce the changes of rigging.
The problem in some sense, I feel is identification of these kind of ideologies which are against the very concept of nation. We sometimes believe that some common principles like loving nation are common amongst all theories which is not exactly true.
Anyway we must congratulate the spirit shown by these people and hope to repeat it in the other parts.
